A. Design and planning. Choosing the sunny side for kids room

Design and planning of kids room is preferably to start with revaluation of the flat planning. Probably you have couple of corridors, weak room insolation, many bearing walls and so on. Never the less in any, even very small, flat you can find options and sort area in such a way that there is space for everyone. Design of kids’ room begins with selection of the room by its insolation and size. Advantage should be give to south and west side. Size of the room doesn’t matter so much. It is always preferably to give a kid his own room, even it its very small 5-7 square meters. It is also good idea to distance kids’ room from kitchen or living room, especially if a child is small. In case it is not possible, at least put a gypsum partitions inside a room with lightening and shelves’ for toys.

B. Separate rooms for different children

While children are small it makes sense to have one room for them, and in a second room make a closet area for children’s clothes and toys. With time each kid will get a separate room, which will allow them to have their own play and rest area.

C. Planning and interior design of kids room

Kids’ room is usually split into couple of areas that are organically connected to each other. We can see the following areas in the kids’ room:

Wardrobe;

Play area;

Work area (for example to do home work from school);

Book shelves to store books and school things.

In this case the design of the curtains has to be thought through, so it doesn’t obstruct the light when a child is doing his home work for example. Under a table there should be some extra shelves. D. Role of walls color, finishing materials and furniture in the design of kids room

In process of work on kids room design you should remember that colors of finishing materials (including color of the walls) should be characterized by light, moderately bright shades. You should use materials that are not easily combustible and have high level of environmental friendliness. Furniture in this room should have mainly functional characteristics, but at the same time being comfortable for the kid and be able to adapt to his changing age. Choosing laminate as a cover for the floor will make the cleaning process easier. Carpet should not completely cover the floor in the kids room. Place it only in the play area or next to a bed. Considering the fact that there are many kids with allergies now, there shouldn’t be any additional source of dust. It is also a good idea to place some additional furniture, besides the standard set, like a sofa where he can read or where his friends can sit when they visit.

E. Light in the design of kids room, light intensity during reading

Light in the kids room is mainly characterized by main lightening, point lightening, and also a night stand. So in its design you should incorporate additional sources of light, like table light, light for some other interior details, light for picture frames and play area. Light intensity should also not strain the eyes of the child and match to that level that is recommended by doctors, besides that should make room cleaning easy, fast and functional.

F. Toys and wardrobe

It is easy to set up a wardrobe (it size should not be less than 1.20x1.20), but you can always think of different planning options – for example making it wider than a standard one. It is actually cheaper to install the wardrobe into the room then to buy a ready stand alone one. You can put inside the toys, skies or bike. The size of it should be enough to take in all that is needed. When you think about kids room design always make extra area and more free space.

G. Podium constructions and second floors in kids room

In kids room interior design you can use podium constructions, mainly to place a work area on it, table and personal computer. In this case podium becomes the center of the room. From underneath it you can place a bad or toy box that could slide out of it, or it could be inverse (like on the photos below), where bed will be on the podium. In this case the high of it can be 1.20 m. Sometimes you can place kids wardrobe on the podium, if the height of the room is 2.70m, height of the wardrobe will about 2.10m. Then again, bed can slide out from underneath it.

H. Floor covering, window décor of kids room and their safety

Floor cover, color and form of the floor in kids room should be done according to government safety standards, concerning the childrens health. After renovation, it is preferably that you don’t move into your home for at least couple of moths and wait until the construction dust settles and smell of paint goes away. Strict norms are also applied to windows in the kids room, which cannot open away from the push, when its open it has to be smaller than then child himself. Possibility of child opening it on its own or falling from it has to equal to 0%. If the window goes from ceiling to the floor of the room, the handles of the window have to be out of reach of children.
